In the Garden, Talking 'bout the garden.... #16/17

Week of June 11, 2012

There was nothing major to report this week.  I did my usual watering and weed pulling as time permited.  That is all.

Week of June 18, 2012

I purchased 30 bags of compost and topsoil, piled it in the back of my small SUV and attempted to drive it home on the highway.  I drove down the exit ramp, merged into traffic, realized (after a slight swerve) it wasn't the right thing to do,  put on the flashers and coasted right off the highway at the very next exit.  Once home, I told Gene what happened and he just looked at me. After a long pause, he politely informed me that I have to use the pick up truck for hauling heavy stuff.  I guess I was supposed to know that but I really didn't have a clue.  Besides, I like driving the SUV.  While I'm standing there with this blank look on my face, trying to process these guidelines, he proceeded to tell me that I also can't load anymore hay.  I mean, really, we have a shopvac!

Every now and then I've been known to drive the pick up but it's definitely a rare occurence.  The last time I was behind the wheel, I was hauling a barrel full of water and turned the corner a little faster than acceptable.  The barrel tipped over, the lid went flying off one way and the water went another.   I had to back down the street and retrieve the lid.  Gene's friend was riding with me and he said "you know this is not a car... right?"  I thought that would be my last drive but I guess that thanks to my misuse of the SUV it wasn't.
