I'm back on my game and things are looking up literally. My veggie babies have burst through the ground and are reaching for the sky. The turnips and beets are far ahead of the pack. Then I have Swiss chard and spinach running a close second. My roses have buds and my peony has made great progress. I already thinned the carrots but noticed that more have popped up. I will thin a bit more in the coming weeks. I also noticed green onions which were very slow in making an appearance. If the cauliflower comes up, I will be ecstatic!
I am super anxious to sew more seeds but have decided to wait until Mother's Day weekend. This will save me from worrying about the last freeze and frost dates which are still a few weeks away. I put in more peas on Monday (4/2/12) but that's definitely it for now.
Next on the week's agenda was fertilizing with fish emulsion. Per the instructions, I should use this every two weeks. I'll be funking up the garden every other Sunday from now until the season is over. I'm looking forward to seeing good results and bragging!
I spent the rest of the week searching for inspiration and fresh ideas as I really want to amp up the backyard. I focused on vertical gardens, creative containers and design options for the TELMORE Gardens "headquarters" (which some would call a storage shed).
Saturday was so much fun! I woke up late but didn't let that stop me. While rushing to the leave the house, I almost forgot the daisies for the garden where I volunteer. As I was trying to separate the daisies, mud splashed all in my face and on my clothes. Really??........ Really!! While cleaning up the mess, I decided to take this as a sign to slow down. I loaded the car and glided on over to the garden just as folks were arriving. After delivering the daisies and chatting for a few, I hopped back in the car and headed to my mother's house.

I observed two bird's nests shortly after arriving to my mother's house. Of course I wanted pictures! On my way to the car for my camera, I asked my mother to watch out for the mama bird who I was sure was nearby watching the entire time. She said she would keep an eye out but clearly forgot in the two minutes it took me to get the camera. I had to stand in a chair in order to position the camera over the nest. As soon as I leaned towards the nest, the mama bird flew right at me..... I jumped out the chair and went screaming off the porch. Once I realized the bird was watching from a nearby tree and not planning to peck me to death, I went back for the picture. Oh was it worth it! The bird's nest was so worn on the outside that I really didn't have big expectations. When I looked at the picture, I was completely shocked to see three of the most beautiful robin's eggs inside of the nest!

I ended my day by painting most of my headquarters/shed. Four paint samples later, I settled on a shade of gray with white trim. Since color is mandatory, I chose a nice glossy butterscotch orange (one of my fave colors) for the door. The guy in the paint department at Home Depot said he approved of the color combo. The guy I live with is skeptical. We'll just have to see how it looks when I'm finally finished.
It was another great week and I look forward to more love in the garden. Stay tuned!

You are a hoot! Glad progress has been made with the TG's headquarters :D the color scheme is on point!
ReplyDeleteLooks like your garden is taking off to a fruitful beginning! Yo, when that cauliflower comes up I'll help celebrate!
