Today I went to the Roots of Woodville Community Garden intending to water. Instead, I found myself walking slowly through the garden enjoying a light breeze under clear skies with sun beaming down from above. As I took this time to really take in the garden, I started to snap pictures and with each picture I shed a tear. The more pictures I took, the more I cried. All of this lush, beautiful goodness came from seeds planted by people with varying levels of experience. This garden was birthed from the labor of strangers and friends and children. This garden connects people with this community who may not have known it even existed had it not been for an invitation to join in. I couldn't help but marvel at what this place had become and be thankful that even though my portion was small, I had contributed to what was spread out before me. With tears continuing to flow like water from a forgotten hose and the breeze dancing softly over my skin, I took a moment to reflect and give God some praise for this was truly a worthy moment on the best of days.
It's funny how we never know what will come into or lives or why and how we can think that we are giving only to find that we are actually the recipients of an even greater gift.
In the spirit of the beautiful brothers who blessed my church with music this morning I sing
O Se (O Se) Baba (baba) meaning Thank you (thank you) Father
(father)
