In the Garden, Talking 'bout the garden.... #13/14

- Week of May 21, 2012
This was a week of ups and downs.  I broke my camera and spent the days that followed trying to decide on a cheap ($100 or less) replacement.  Over a month has passed and there's still no signs of a new camera.  I had to resort to taking pictures on my ipod which wasn't the best alternative but I believe in "making do".

I had better luck at the flea market where I stumbled upon a reel lawnmower.  I was on my way to meet my mom for a meal when I spotted the mower out the corner of my eye.  I whipped the pick up into the flea market parking lot and headed over to check out the mower with not a dime in my pocket.  After bargaining down the price and running across to the bank for cash, I headed directly to my mom's house to try out the goods.

The tailgate can be hard to open so I had to climb in the back of the truck, lift the mower over the tailgate and slowly lower it to the ground.  On the first push, I learned that the mower does not cut down weeds.  I also learned that the blades must be properly adjusted in order to get a good cut. Most importantly, my mother informed me that she doesn't want me cutting her grass because I have no experience.  Once I made it home, Gene politely advised that I wouldn't be cutting the grass at our house either.  Needless to say, the mower went into the shed where it remains.

After being in Atlanta for a few days attending my niece's graduation, I was anxious to see how things fared in the garden.  Gene & I arrived home around midnight and at midnight I ventured out for a look at my veggies.  With a soft glow equivalent to that of a child's night light coming from the moonlit sky, I surmised that a massive growth spurt had occurred during my absence.  Feeling good about the progress, I danced in the house and settled down for the rest of the night.  Early that morning I was up and headed to the garden for a better look.  Before I made it half way across the yard, it was obvious that my midnight celebration was a bit premature.  There was some growth but it was minimal and certainly not what I thought I saw the night before.   I made a mental note to keep future expectations realistic and went about the business of pulling weeds and watering before heading inside for some much needed relaxation.
