After finishing up at the Hotchkiss Community garden on Saturday, 4/21/12, I made my way over to Roots of Woodville where the workday was well underway. When I arrived, several folks were removing mulch from the edges of the garden to prepare for fence construction and a few volunteers were taking a rest under an old oak tree. It was such a beautiful scene to drive up and see so many people working together for the good of the Woodville Community. Throughout the next few hours, holes were dug, posts were put in place and the fence was nailed up. The garden also received much needed water and a mass of poison ivy growing in the back of the lot was cut down.
As is always the case when we gather at the corner of 28th & Tate Street, many new connections were made. There was constant chatter amongst volunteers old and new about the future of the garden and various efforts to improve community bonds.
The energy is positive and the existing volunteer gardeners look forward to meeting other residents of the Woodville Community on future workdays which are currently set at the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month..
